Aesthetic Medicine is a developing clinical subspecialty and field in scientific research aimed at the use of minimally invasive cosmetic treatments to enhance patients' satisfaction with their physical appearance. This subspecialty is no longer limited to the fields of plastic surgery and dermatology, as many specialties are offering aesthetic medical procedures in order to better accommodate their patients' aesthetic needs. A growing trend among baby boomers is that aesthetic treatments are part of a normal health routine with the goal of maintaining a natural and healthy appearance.

Aesthetics is an inclusive term for specialties which focus on improving appearance of individuals via cosmetic procedures. It is not just limited to scars, wrinkles, moles, excessive fat, unwanted hair, and skin discoloration. Aesthetic procedures traditionally included reconstructive surgery, cosmetic surgery, and dermatology. Aesthetic medicine included surgical procedures: liposuction, facelifts, breast implants, Radio frequency ablation and Non-Surgical procedures: radio frequency skin tightening, non-surgical liposuction, chemical peel. Few practitioners utilize combination of both the procedures.

Devices are applied directly to the skin of the treatment area and do not employ injections or incisions. Although fat loss is more subtle with non-surgical lipolysis techniques compared to surgical liposuction, non-surgical lipolysis techniques have several advantages including reduced risk, reduced cost, and reduced healing time.
